Manitoba Corn Maze
Mid-Summer and fall visitors to Manitoba should consider stopping at Animal Alley is the name of the petting zoo and it's very popular with all ages. With farm animals like a calf, goat, sheep, pigs, chickens, rabbits, kids are allowed to pet the animals and feed some of them. There are also exotic animals lilke Fallow Deer, however they're not domesticated and are not easily approached by humans. Some fawns can be bottle fed but for the most part they'd prefer to keep their distance. They are still nice to watch.
Garden Fresh Vegetables
The market garden is open from August through the end of the season and features all sorts of farm fresh vegetables like Sweet Corn, Pumpkins, cucumbers, tomatoes and various squashes. Opening in 2011 or 2012 is a new area called the Cherry Berry Orchard which will feature cherries, saskatoons, raspberries and apples. This will be a U-Pick operation where people can come and pick their own fruit for fresh eating, baking or preserving.
There are hayrides, 3 picnic areas with firepits and a party tent also available for group rentals along with a concession stand that sells snacks. During the fall, Deer Meadow Farms hosts educational tours and field trips for schools and groups that provides them with some basic knowledge of agriculture and the important role that farming has in producing all sorts of food for people and animals. The message that ‘Farmers Feed the World’ is an important one that Deer Meadow Farms is sharing with the next generation through an fun and entertaining way.
